NSA on 5 defendants including Sonu and Ansar

Delhi police have imposed a strict National Security Act (NSA) on the five defendants arrested in connection with the Jahangirpuri violence. During the procession in Jahangirpuri on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Saturday, there was a clash between two communities, in which eight policemen and a local resident were injured.

According to the police, rock-throwing and arson took place during the clashes and some vehicles were also set on fire.

According to the PTI news agency, Delhi police said those arrested under the strict law include Ansar and Sonu, the alleged ‘main conspirators’ of the violence, who were seen shooting in a video during Saturday’s violence. The NSA was also imposed against Salim, Dilshad and Ahir.

A person named Gulli has been arrested for providing a gun to a defendant in the violent Jahangirpuri case, police said on Tuesday. He said that apart from Gulli, Dilshad was also arrested and they are both residents of Jahangirpuri.

According to the police, so far 25 people have been arrested while two minors have been arrested in connection with the clashes during the procession released on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

Meanwhile, police said the situation in Jahangirpuri was returning to normal and heavy security forces were deployed in the violence-hit area. Police said some shops are open on the streets, mostly grocery stores, and the movement of people is also becoming normal.

More than 500 police and six additional force companies were deployed in the area around the clock. A total of 80 teams armed with tear gas and water cannons were deployed, police said. Drones are also used to monitor rooftops in sensitive areas.
