Adelaide will be declared a Commonwealth Hotspot. Affected residents will be able to apply for financial assistance

South Australia’s Finance Minister and Senator Simon Birmingham has confirmed that the Adelaide Metro, along with Gawler and Adelaide Hills, will be declared a Commonwealth hotspot later in the evening.
He said Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly would release the statement in response to the latest COVID situation in the city.
Adelaide Prime Minister Steven Marshall today announced a 7-day statewide lockdown.
“The declaration will trigger a number of things in terms of helping South Australia,” Senator Birmingham said.
“Such as providing any additional equipment needed as well as assistance with contact tracing if needed.
“It also triggers significant income support for South Australians.”
South Australians in declared hotspots who lose between 8 and 20 hours of work will be entitled to $ 375, while people losing more than 20 hours will be entitled to $ 600.
People can request payments at the end of the foreclosure as they are paid in arrears.
Senator Birmingham said people outside the Adelaide, Gawler and Adelaide Hills metro who were still under restrictions would receive financial support from the South African government – as has happened in other states like Victoria where the restrictions affected areas larger than those defined in the hotspot statement.
