The Bar Council of India (BCI) has released a statement distancing itself from a supposed advertisement for an online law course on a website that looks suspiciously like the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

Attempts made to pass off advertising as IGNOU

The country’s regulatory authority for legal education, BCI, said an attempt had been made to make the advertisement appear as if the advertisement was on the IGNOU website, indicating that the university was starting admission in remote mode in LLB for the year 2022.

Announced course not recognized by the BCI

A press release issued by BCI Secretary Srimanto Sen said: “It is clearly stated/clarified that such publicity is illegal and has been published without proper acknowledgment of such degree and approval by the Board. of the Bar of India.”

IGNOU’s precision

In response to a letter from BCI, IGNOU Registrar VB Negi informed the Board that no such advertisement for admission to LLB courses has been posted by the university on its website. .

BCI Statement

“BCI issues the press release to this effect and informs all stakeholders and the general public that such an advertised degree course is not recognized and endorsed by BCI,” an official statement from BCI reads.

“And it is advertised on a website deceptively similar to that of IGNOU at https://ignou.icnn.in/ignou-llb-admission/ which is not the official website of IGNOU, using the name of IGNOU and IGNOU is in fact not related to the same in any way as per the letter received from its Registrar,” the Bar Council of India said.
