Construction Skills Centre

Woodkirk Stone were delighted to help Woodkirk High Specialist Science School in providing material for students to learn new skills.

The new purpose built Construction Skills Centre within the school grounds was officially opened on 23 April by former Secretary of State, Ed Balls.  A group of Year 10 students had the opportunity of showcasing their new skills for the occasion.

Ed Balls said: “Whether your skills are more academic or vocational, its really important that you get the qualifications you need to get on in life.  It’s good to see Woodkirk leading the way in construction skills with this brand new state-of-the-art skills centre.  Not only do courses like this give young people the qualifications they need to get good jobs – the evidence is they also inspire students to work hard in subjects like Maths and English too”

The building represents a significant investment into expanding the curriculum, at both Key Stages 4 and 5.  Students will use the stone to develop building skills.
